Not that any of us need an excuse to enjoy ice cream, but summer’s hot temps and long days sure do provide a welcome nudge. And that means a trip to Dairy King!
The first Dairy King was opened in Breese back in 1951. Years following saw changes in locations and owners. New products were added, including the fountain Cherry Ski, which became so popular it was later marketed by Ski’s distributor. The cute penguin mascot was added in 1995 when new owners took over. And eventually the business went from being a seasonal café to a year-round one, to the delight of local patrons.
But, despite the lineup of tasty burgers, sandwiches, chicken dishes and more, it is the ice cream that makes Dairy King a favorite with locals and visitors. The menu is extensive with cones, floats, sundaes, and the ever-popular shakes. Order a shake at Dairy King and it is a thick delight that takes its time working up the straw. Add 50 cents and you can get what they call a “concrete,” a super-thick spoonable shake that’s super yummy. Flavor choices are vast and tempting, such as cake batter brownie or Hawaiian tropical—deciding what to order is never easy!
In addition to the Breese location, there is now one in Trenton too. Both are open for breakfast, and stay open till 10:00 p.m. during summer.
