Apple-icious Clinton County, Illinois!

It’s apple season! From orchards where you can pick your own, to restaurants and bakeries that sell pies and other goodies, now is the time to indulge in all things apple. You can pick your own apples at Schwartz Farms in Centralia, then take a break at one of the picnic tables and enjoy fresh apple cider donuts with the farm’s fresh apple cider. The kitchen at Schwartz also makes yummy apple cobbler and turnovers.

Every year folks look forward to buying Taphorn Orchard’s yummy homemade apple butter and cider. You’ll find these delicious seasonal treats at the Beckemeyer orchard, where you can also buy their homegrown apples—Gala, golden and red delicious, and Jonathan varieties.

Mmm, Berkemann’s Baker’s Dozen is busy making its apple spiced donuts (with frosting!) and they’re looking mighty delish. You won’t want to miss them. This favorite local bakery is always a good source for apple pies, just in case you don’t get around to making your own. Berkemann’s pies are available year-round in 9″ and 4″ sizes with either lattice or crumb crust.

Don’t be fooled by its name, Covered in Chocolate makes scrumptious apple desserts too, including apple pies, apple cakepops, apple cupcakes, and—just because they can’t resist—chocolate-covered caramel apples. Sounds like a visit to the store is definitely in order!
