Just as we know that summer has begun when the days get hotter and the thunderstorms start rolling in, we also know that summer has truly started with the announcement that the Clinton County Fair days are upon us. For those that might not be in the know, on Sun. July 14, the Clinton County Fair begins in Clinton County, IL. It’s an annual summer tradition stretching back to 1951; a full week of family fun and education focused on the agriculture, livestock, and machinery that built this community. Running until Sat. July 20, the fair has an impressive line-up of activities, events, and stands that expand with each passing year.
One event that is especially popular in the community is the Farm Bureau Float Competition. This year’s theme is “A Salute to the Farmer”, in honor of the hardworking farmers in our community. This event is for both FFA Chapters and 4-H Club entries, as well as other organizations, trying to get the first-place cash prize of $500 for FFA and 4-H competitors, or $300 for other organizations- no hard feelings towards other organizations, we just really love our future agriculturists and farmers! Visitors are invited to pull up a chair on Monday, July 15th at 6pm and see just how much appreciation for farmers we have in Clinton County.
If you’re looking to get moving before all the festivities begin, then the “Who’s the Fairest 5k” is the event for you! Starting at 8am on Sat. July 13, this run or walk event gives you a chance to get active and also meet the “Royal Court”! Come meet our current Clinton County Queen, and the lovely contestants participating in the “Miss Clinton County” Pageant (Sat. July 20) for the title of Clinton County Queen. A fun fact about the Clinton County Queen is that each queen chooses a foundation or organization to encourage as part of her yearly duties, the Queen of 2018 chose “The Crayon Initiative” to support efforts to recycle old crayons that are repurposed for children’s hospitals!
The events listed above are only a small taste of all that Clinton County Fair has to offer, here are some more exciting events and dates to mark down:
