The annual King Kat Tournament, sponsored by Cabela’s, comes to Carlyle Lake on Saturday, August 15, 2020. This Tournament Trail includes 12 events located in ten different states and the day at Carlyle Lake is always well-attended and fun! Our local participants can earn the right to compete at the national level at the Super Bowl of Cat Fishing held in October this year in Milford, KS.
This day of cat fishing competition is affordable and includes a seminar at each tournament site. The seminar is open to the public so you can learn something even if you are not participating that day. On August 15, at 6:30am, the competitors will begin the fun of “catching the big one!” Fisherfolk will pull in all their lures by 3pm and must be in line for official weigh-in by 4pm at the Dam West Boat Ramp on Marina Road in Carlyle, IL.
After the weigh-in, the seminar will be held at Mariners Village Center on Resort Drive, Carlyle, IL. Late registration for just the seminar happens from 5pm to 7pm and the seminar begins at 7pm. Learn about techniques and new equipment available from some of the contributing vendors and sponsors.
Registration is available online and must be completed by July 31 in order to avoid the late registration fee. The $300 fee includes a team of two fisherfolk and can include a third person for free if that person is under 16 or over 65 years of age. Total purses for the national tournament can reach over $70,000 so that’s great inspiration for our local day of cat fishing.
The weekend of August 14-16, 2020 will be filled with other fun events too – all physically distanced for your safety. See information about the Cruisin’ the Dam Car Show and make your plans now for a great summer getaway!
